‘Mommy’
In the movie review for ‘Mommy’,
created by A.O. Scott, he grabs the audience attention by simply making an
interesting title to his review. The title is, ‘Parent and Child as Two
Volcanoes Under One Roof’, this gives the audience a sense of interest
specifically with the word volcanoes. As most of the audience knows, a
volcano can be very peaceful for one minute, not harming anybody but
destructive as it erupts. Throughout Scott’s review, he describes the movie in
a way in which he seems like he’s describing a teenage boy. This is very clever
because the movie is about a single mom with a destructive son. For example “As
such, it courts dismissal, misunderstanding and perhaps even anger. Why does
this movie have to be so noisy? So needy? So inconsiderate of the needs of
others? Can’t it, just for a minute, mind its manners, clean up its room and
behave responsibly?” Scott says this because it simply directed towards the
main character of the movie, which is a teenage boy.
This piece is arresting because the
writer makes you believe he is knocking off the movie when in fact he actually
likes it. Scott likes how the movie is crazy, loud, and dysfunctional through
the way it was narrated. The use of comparison between the movie and a real
life household makes this review very interesting for the audience specifically
for those who have a family. Not saying many families are dysfunctional but it
is interesting to read about a family that is dysfunctional within this review.
Therefore his strawberries are simply the writer’s comparison of the movie to
real life.
